Petaluma 2016 B and V Vineyard Shiraz Adelaide Hills

The B&V Vineyard lies on the eastern edge of the Adelaide Hills and is planted on micaceous schist soils.

The Adelaide Hills had an incredibly dry winter and spring, followed by the hottest December on record, and a very dry summer. Happily the region then had beautiful soaking rains in late January and early February, which saved the day.

The fruit was hand picked in February, very early as a result of the drought, and was fermented on skins for two weeks following a cold soak. At sugar dryness the wine was drained away, the skins pressed and the wine gravity fed to barrels. The Shiraz was aged in 70% new Freench oak and 30% shaved and fired older French oak for 19 months.

The B&V Shiraz is a vibrant, deep brooding wine. Ripe red fruits are complemented by pepper and spice and elegant abundant soft tannins frame the long fruit finish. A sumtuous wine to be enjoyed young which will also age gracefully for many decades.
