First brewed in 1869, Tooheys Old Black Ale, now known simply as Tooheys Old, is the only brew from our colonial era that is still known and loved today. Tooheys Old was a lighter more refreshing Australian alternative to the heavy warm English Ales of the time. A robustly flavoured, surprisingly refreshing ale, the beer is given its dark colour due to the use of roasted barley malt. The fruity ale‐like esters blend with the subtle hoppiness and hints of coffee and chocolate to deliver a truly unique beer still standing the test of time.
